Situated near the River Francolí, the Roman villa of Centcelles
shows evidence of different phases of occupation (2nd century
BC - 4th century AD). One of the villa's main rooms was converted
into a mausoleum around the middle of the 4th century. It has
a dome decorated with mosaics showing hunting scenes, stories
from the Old and New Testaments, the four seasons and enthroned
persons. This complex is a key element in our understanding of
early Christian art.
