As capital of the
Provincia Hispania Citerior, in addition to the Colonial Forum
which dealt with local affairs, Tàrraco had a Provincial
Forum with the different departments and services of the provincial
government. We know exactly where the outer perimeter (320 x 175
metres) of the Provincial Forum was situated from the sections
of wall that can still be seen at several points in the old town.
We have, however, almost no knowledge of the inner distribution
of the square and the architecture of its buildings. The towers
of the Praetorium and the Audience at the two southern corners
of the facade completed the enclosure.
