It was traditionally
thought that the buildings situated at the northeastern end of
the walled area were the Colonial Forum. They consist of an arcaded
square, a row of tabernae and, in the centre, the curia. However,
recent studies appear to show that these remains are only a part
of the above-mentioned Forum (specifically, the basilica). The
rest of the compound should still be hidden (or lost) beneath
the modern buildings situated between what we previously thought
of as the Forum and the edge of the flat area of land overlooking
the port.
