This is the
most important monument of its type known in the area of the ancient
provincia Tarraconensis. Located on the Via Augusta, about
20 km north of Tarragona, it is a simple, plain arch with one
span built of local stone ashlars. Eight fluted pilasters, topped
with Corinthian capitals, support an entablature with an inscription
referring to the restoration of the monument financed by Lucius
Licinius Sura at the beginning of the 2nd century AD. The architectural
features place its construction during the period of Augustus.
