Els Munts Roman villa. The most recent excavations .
A temporary exhibit of the latest finds from the Roman villa of Els Munts (Altafulla, Tarragonès). Thanks to the most recent excavations we have been able to delve deeper into the history and structural and functional characteristics of this important archaeological site. The research appears to confirm that the villa, located in the territorium of the Roman city of Tarraco, was once the residence of an important person in the administration of the provincia Hispania citerior.
Highlights among the items on display are the four mural mosaics (depicting muses and possibly the portrait of a man), a statue of Antinous and various parts of the building (columns, capitals, etc.).

The Santa Maria Magdalena Altarpiece of Santes Creus
19 December - 12 April
To commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of the Bibliographic Archive of the
Monastery of Santes Creus, the National Archaeological Museum of Tarragona,
in collaboration with the Autonomous Government of Catalonia's Movable
Property Restoration Service and the Tarragona Town Council, has organized
an exhibition on the Santa Maria Magdalena Altarpiece from the monastery of
Santes Creus.
The Santa Maria Magdalena altarpiece was created by the artists Joan de
Borgunya and Nicolau de Credença at the beginning of the 16th century
(1510). It recalls different scenes from the life of the saint, sister of
Marta and Lazarus and the sinner at the meal in the house of Simon. The
altarpiece also illustrates an 11th century legend from Provence full of
fantastic episodes which became very popular in Catalonia. The devotion to
this saint was such that many churches and chapels, as well as carved images
in stone and wood, were dedicated to her. The altarpiece is an example of
this devotion.
The thematic way the exhibition is organized is designed to demonstrate and
contextualize the value of the Santa Maria Magdalena altarpiece from an
anthropological, artistic and historical point of view.
