The building is located at the northeast of
the Early-Christian Necropolis complex, between
the Tobacco Factory and Ramón y Cajal Avenue. It
is built on a concrete platform that also
contains the remains of a mausoleum belonging to
the archaeological site of the Necropolis.
It is the central services headquarters for
the National Archaeological Museum of Tarragona
and contains the basic infrastructure needed to
carry out the research and conservation work of
the Museum as well as the distribution of
information.
It covers an area of 310 square metres with
four floors and a total floor space of 1,300
square metres. The two lower floors house the
storage space, the workshop for cleaning,
classifying and marking archaeological material
and a strongroom. The third floor, at street
level, is made up of the Reception, Conference
Room, Library and Researchers' Room. The fourth
floor houses the Museum's technical and
administrative services: the Restoration
Workshop, Drawing Office, Photographic Studio and
Laboratory, Documentation and Archives,
Administration, Conservation, Secretariat and
Management.
