The Roman villa of Parets-Delgades
is located next to the gothic hermitage of the same name, in the
municipal area of La Selva del Camp.
The remains of the ancient site were
discovered in the kitchen garden and patio area when work was
started on a new building for the residents of the hermitage.
Several rooms with mosaic floors,
joined by a long corridor, were also uncovered. Studying these
mosaics we can see a series of motifs common in 4th century provinces
with connections to the mosaic workshops of North Africa.
The workshop or craftsman who oversaw
the creation of the floors of this villa would probably have come
from the mosaic factories of Carthage or its area.
Such craftsmen were itinerant and
travelled to wherever the wealthy villa owners required, as in
this case.
